Seek His Face...Not His Hand
I had a question asked me from a friend. They wanted to know what it meant to seek
God's face and not His hand. I searched the scriptures for the answer to this question.
What does it mean 'God's hand'?
And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee,
and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.
Ezekiel 35:3
Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of
God hath touched me.
Job 19:21
Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
Luke 22:69
In the above verses that mention God's hand - there is an association to God's actions
whether it be for good or for destruction. It is God's power that comes through His hand.
It is by His hand that His power is demonstrated.
In Luke 22:69 it is talking about Jesus - Jesus is POWER - there is POWER in HIS name!!
And where is HE? The right hand of God!!
It can be then that God's hand is His power and His might, and His works.
In contrast to His hand there is seeking His face. What does this mean to seek God's face?
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
Psalm 27:8
David had sinned greatly; he wanted God to be near. Notice how David uses the word his heart.
The heart is the center of our faith. God wanted David to seek Him.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and
will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
God's people need to turn to Him. Nations turn their back on God, do not obey Him and take Him
out of their country. They stop seeking Him and think they don't need Him. This is not just nations,
but individuals too. We often think we can do it all by ourselves - we want to control our lives.
But it is God who is in ultimate control. We need to seek Him - seek His face so that we will know
what His will for our life and His will for any nation of the world is.
Seeking God's face is about knowing God, knowing who He is, knowing Him very closely.
To walk with Him and to have a relationship with Him.
When we look at someone's face we see their eyes. If the 'light' is right, we can see
our reflection in their eyes. What a thought to seek Him and to look at Him and see our
reflection in HIS eyes!!
We ought to seek Him - seek His face not what He can do by His hands. He longs for us to come
to Him for all our needs. He longs for us to have a relationship with Him -
Seek Him!!!
