Be Gone

Jesus cut him short. "Be silent! Come out of the man."
Mark 1:25 NLT

Tiredness comes to all of us. Some grow tired physically, some mentally, some emotionally, and still some spiritually. When we tell others we are tired, they usually think, or may even say, "Yeah so what? Aren't we all? Get over it."

And get over it most of us do. If we are tired physically, or even mentally, rest brings relief. However, emotional and spiritual tiredness don't always have such a clear cut answer. These are not so easy to just get over on our own.

Today I heard a news story about some overwhelming statistics of young people participating in self mutilation. It seems emotional and spiritual tiredness take over. They seek, prefer I guess, physical pain to take their minds from deep emotional pain which they can find no cure for.

When I heard the news story I immediately thought of the Bible story of the man in the Gadarenes. He was so miserable, hurting so bad inside, that he inflicted pain on the outside, attempting to take the focus from what must have been overwhelming emotional pain.

Mark 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

Jesus sent the demons that possessed the man into a herd of swine. The King James Version says that Jesus gave them leave. Some versions say Jesus gave them permission to leave. I like the way THE MESSAGE says Jesus said it.

Mark 5:13 Jesus gave the order...

In Mark Chapter One, Jesus dealt with another demon in Capernaum. There was a man at the synagogue, miserable, possessed by an evil spirit. Jesus basically told the demon to shut up. The NLT says it nicely, "Jesus cut him short."

I picture Jesus on both of these occasions. He probably approached calmly and peacefully, but boldly ordered a legion of demons to go into swine. He sternly cut a demon short and told him to shut up.

I seldom grow tired physically. Occasionally I do grow tired mentally, but I let my mind rest awhile and go right back to the task at hand. Due to overwhelming chaotic situations in my own life I admit I have lately grown tired and weary emotionally and spiritually. Even though I have no intent of inflicting any outward pain on my physical body, I have gained some understanding of what would possess these young people to participate in such mindless acts of self destruction. I struggle to block out turmoil from evil that I must face every single day in my home. This situation attempts to take over all aspects of who I am. The pain inflicted is deep and hurtful. I cry out to Jesus for relief. I pray for his peace to surround me daily.

Today as I cried out to Jesus, He spoke to me. He told me I have the power to boldly give orders to cut the enemy short who has lately come into my home like a flood. I can tell Him to shut up and be gone. He has no power over me.

I also was reminded of a movie I watched over and over as a child. In the movie a little girl was blown over the rainbow into a land of munchkins, tin men, and scarecrows. In one scene the lovely Glender tells the mean old witch who is chasing Dorothy to be gone. She says, "Rubbish, you have no power here. Be gone before someone drops a house on you." Even though the old movie has a theme much less than desirable for young people, or anyone really, there is some truth in it.

Today I tell the enemy boldly, "Shut-up!!! Rubbish, you have no power here, Be gone in the name of Jesus Christ before He sends you into a herd of pigs!"

Pray for all the hurting people who are participating in this "new trend" that the love and power of Jesus Christ will come into their lives like a flood this very day. Let them boldly order satan to shut-up and be gone in the name of Jesus. He cuts the enemy short and brings rest to all who are tired and weary.
