Don't Dwell on the Past
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3:13-14
King James Version
One of the ways that satan tries to discourage and defeat us is to keep reminding us of our past mistakes and sins. For years, I allowed him to discourage and defeat me until one day God spoke to my heart and said "When the blood of My Son was applied to your heart, I forgave you for all of your sins. I will never hold them against you again. Don’t allow satan to discourage and defeat you any more. You have been set free by the blood of My Son, now walk in that freedom."
We read in the Bible “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1: 7). If you have humbled yourself, admitted that you are a sinner and asked Jesus to forgive you and come into your heart to be your personal Saviour, your sins are under the blood of our precious Saviour. The verse says that we are cleansed from all of our sins. Every sin that we committed before we were saved by the precious atoning blood of Jesus has been forgiven and forgotten, never to be used against us again.
The next time that satan tries to discourage and defeat you by reminding you of your past mistakes and sins, tell him that they are under the blood of Jesus. Jesus paid an agonizing price for your freedom. Don’t allow satan to discourage and defeat you any more. Walk in the freedom that Jesus purchased for you when He died for you on the cruel cross of Calvary.
You don’t have to live a defeated life any more. Ask Jesus to help you forget your past. He will be faithful to take all of the bad memories away. Instead of thinking about your past, concentrate on making Jesus happy. When satan tries to discourage and defeat you, start praising Jesus and thank Him for dying for you and thank Him that you have been set free and can now walk victoriously in that freedom.
There are so many people who are hurting, lonely, discouraged and defeated. I urge you to tell them that Jesus loves them unconditionally and that they too can be set free from the bondage of satan through the precious redeeming and atoning blood of Jesus. Put your arms around them and hug them to Jesus. It’s not enough to tell them that Jesus loves them. We must prove to them that He loves them by our loving actions.
Are you allowing satan to discourage and defeat you? If so, stop it! Jesus is more than enough for every situation, every trial, every heartache, every burden and every crisis. Instead of thinking about your past life and all the mistakes you made, turn your eyes upon Jesus. If you will keep your eyes on Him, you will have the peace that only He can give to you. You will also have joy and happiness in your heart. Are your eyes on Jesus or are they on satan?
